Name/Work Name: Itsuki Inubouzak/Inuko (Puppy)
Canon: Yuki Yuna is a Hero
Canon Point:
AU/CRAU: No
Age: 12
History: When Itsuki was a small child, masked men appeared in the doorway and, while she fearfully clung to and hid behind her sister, informed them that their parents had both died. Since that day, her older sister, Fu, had been both an older sister and mother figure to Itsuki.
She wakes her, cooks for her, even brushes her hair. Itsuki loves Fu deeply and feels safest in her care, but always felt like she was stagnating, always being protected and never benefiting Fu in any way.
When Fu recruits members to her Hero Club, Itsuki included, a club dedicated to community services and helping people with their problems ranging from finding a home for kittens to throwing a children's birthday parties, Itsuki still finds that she mostly lags behind, also being the youngest member...
But this changes when an attack occurs at school and Fu reveals the true nature of her heroics-- she's a hero chosen by the local deity, Shinju, to protect this world from an encroaching threat called Vertexes (strange, spirits that need to be fought on an invisible plane, by the heroes under the Shinju's protection and with powers awarded by it, in order to seal them away so they don't kill Shinju and destroy the world) and the seemingly-ordinary chat app they all had downloaded as members was also to receive missions.
They each receive a fairy companion too, Itsuki's first is a mouthless plant spirit (and so is her second).
And... Itsuki is chosen, along with the other members of the Hero Club at the time, Karin and Togo. A fourth girl seemed to prefer fighting alone, but was really just stubbornly proud and in need of friends too, joins them after some time.
While Fu always keeps a chipper, motivating air, after seeing a child desperately plead to their mother to keep the kittens their mother had called the Hero Club to find homes for, Fu felt regretful that she didn't fight and plead, in tears, to keep Itsuki out of this hero business.
But that wasn't how it was for Itsuki at all-- she didn't see it as being condemned to danger and a possibility of death, instead, she was happy that Shinju awarded her powers that would allow her to finally become someone who can give back to her sister and support her, rather than stay forever hiding at her back.
Itsuki grows stronger and is happy with her new powers. She also has a natural talent for singing, but never knew what to do with her future and due to her painfully shy nature, could not bring herself to sing confidently and show her true capabilities, in front of others, although she sings beautifully when she thinks no one is listening.
With the help of the Hero Club, although the earlier attempts at easing her nerves fail, a note secretly slipped in her book with encouraging messages from all the members (well, mostly encouraging-- Togo leaves a strange reminder that her classmates are all pumpkins, but that's Togo's character), gives her the courage to sing beautifully in her test. Her classmates note she has a talent and Itsuki finally finds a goal for her life! To become a singer.
... which takes a turn for the tragic when the last seven vertexes attack at once and it takes all their effort and activating a higher, but more costly Mankai form, to defeat them and her friends are injured and momentarily thought to be dead, although they all fought valiantly and Itsuki did her absolute best to make sure Togo and Karin got down to earth safely, even though Fu had taken a hit and hadn't moved for a worryingly long time...
But the cost for each of the girls is different. Fu is losing vision in one eye and Itsuki loses her voice. They're assured it's temporary... but, now that they've been relieved of their duties and have defeated all the Vertexes, they lose their powers, chat app, and their fairies too, without even getting to say goodbye.
Undaunted by the slow recovery (well, Togo and Fu are troubled, but Itsuki is hopeful...), the girls try to make the best of it, and reaffirm their friendship and the club's status, even though they no longer need to literally save the world (the Vertrexes have all been defeated, after all! Well, as far as they know right now).
Personality: Itsuki is timid, shy, somewhat messy and dependent child; while gifted in singing, she still has her fears and insecurities, although she is beginning to develop a sense of confidence and has decided on a dream for herself for the first time. She is quite the ordinary 12 year old girl, minus the ex-magical-girl business) with the added self-awareness and sense of responsibility losing her parents at a young age brings, knowing that her older sister has to spend her youth practically mothering her and feeling somewhat guilty and helpless due to that.
Itsuki has a very good relationship with her older sister, Fu... a consistently warm and respectful one, apart from gentle teasing at each other's expense (Itsuki's messiness and Fu's eating and overuse of the phrase "girl power"), but it's understandable in the light of Fu playing a motherly role in her life, despite being only two years older. As such, Itsuki feels deeply indebted to her! She wants nothing more than to be able to give back, not rely on Fu for everything, which was why she took so easily to the hero role. It's not that it wasn't difficult or frightening to the girl, but Fu has been carrying this burden alone all this time... this was finally her chance to become someone who can stand by Fu's side, instead of always being protected behind her back.
Itsuki is very pure-hearted and does not seem to resent others, even though she compares herself to others frequently; her negative feelings largely turn inwards and manifest as lack of confidence and shrinking away, when they do not push her forward to prove them wrong by becoming someone more useful and a stronger person. Itsuki can selfmotivate in some areas, but, being quite dependant, typically needs (a lot of) support from friends and her sister! But she is making big steps forward...
Itsuki is very perceptive to others' needs, always careful to keep people's feelings in mind, which make her a very kind and considerate person (while Fu and the mother of the child who did not want to gve up the kittens focused on convincing the child, Itsuki focused in on the child's tears and realized the kittens weren't unwanted— in the end, the child kept the kittens, an outcome the others did not expect), but also prone to self-doubt and fears of social rejection (her fear of public singing and her unwillingness to join her friends to karaoe because they wouldn't be able to enjoy themselves singing if Ituski, who had lost her voice, accompanied them). Her high empathy and considerate nature is one of her greatest strengths, but the ease with which she shrinks away and stifles herself for others' sake is the source of problems too.
Itsuki is quick to become attached to others and is very sentimental. When she realizes that after the Vertexes are defeated, their powers, app, and fairies all disappeared, she was mostly saddened by the fact that they never had the chance to say goodbye to their fairies...
She isn't entirely meek and sweet, however, and while she's not as big a goofball as her sister can often (deliberately) be, she Itsuki does have a similar penchant for cheeky remarks and teasing humour, although it's more often in the form of (brutally honest) blunt remarks.
She proves herself resourceful and dependable when she saves Yuna and Togo, using her wires very rapidly to slow their descent and gently break their fall until they land softly, all while uncertain of her collapsed and silent sister's fate, having feared the worst before steeling her resolve.
Her dream of becoming a singer is her first goal unrelated to comparing with her sister in any way, and it is something she has decided to keep secret from her for now. Rather than being seen as a self-centered thing, it's celebrated as her first step to defining herself as a separate person, not solely in regards to her older sister... but, this newfound confidence has taken a hit by the fact that she lost her voice, she cannot continue to do well in her singing classes when she cannot make a sound, and does not know how to communicate without it except through writing on a sketchbook she now carries around, but she's still hopeful that she'll recover like the hospital staff reassured her she would!
Debt: Itsuki wants to become an accomplished singer! That way, she can pursue a dream of her own and also, make lots of money and Fu can eat all the food she could possibly want and Itsuki can start to pay back at least that much of Fu's care for her, by ensuring them both a comfortable life!
Previous Game Info: none
Inventory: flower hairclips, a cell phone, a middle school uniform, and a book of lyrics with a hand-written note from her friends in the Hero Club.
Abilities: somewhat accurate fortune telling. Was previously a magical girl who saved the world! Now, well, she has no magical abilities whatsoever...
Strengths and Weaknesses: higher than average mental resilience, fast reaction time, fast hand-to-eye coordination, incredibly patient. Won't be daunted by smaller, cuter spirits due to familiarity with the fairies she and her friends were accompanied by in their time as heroes. Might be suspicious/fearful around larger, scarier looking ones that remind her of Vertexes.
Physically average strength when not amplified by transformation. She is still largely an ordinary child and can be overcome easily in a physical brawl, but can probably manipulate piano wire or a garrote-type of weapon with disturbing ease (her fighting style relied on a magical equivalent). While perceptive and aware, she remains rather naive simply due to her age and lack of awareness.
( SAMPLE )
Characterization Sample: This place was strange... but, it wasn't as strange as the Shinju's barrier. She walked slowly, blinking up at the blue sky, the white sun burning a clear circle, and looked to the trees with their roots in the ground and branches reaching for the sky. The creatures were strange, yes, some altogether unnerving (especially the ones with too many limbs), but this place... looked nothing like the Shinju's barrier. The horizon cut a distinct line across her vision: sky above, land below.
The funny looking bee-coloured snakes launched themselves into the air, propelled by their tails. Whether she moved quickly or slowly, they sailed at the same speed. Time flowed normally. No one attacked her. They couldn't have been enemies! She still couldn't transform, she wasn't informed of any threat, and it would worry her, but... a flash of familiar greeen in the corner of her eye and she whirled around. Had she imagined it?! It looked almost like...!
'Kodama!' she mouthed, breathless and wordless, then broke into a desperate run.
It could have been her fairy, right?! Of course, this way, it made sense... this world that seemed almost normal except for its inhabitants, that the creatures living here followed their own different but distinct rules, the fact that she was whisked away to this place, and that she had a debt to pay... it was like something out fo a fairy tale, isn't it?! This was the work of fairies?! Maybe this is the world her fairy was born in, maybe she could find it again...!
She ran desperately through the trees, weaving in and out, as she didn't want to venture too far in, not wanting to disturb the other forest-dwellers, but Kodama was a plant spirit! Maybe it would be at home in the woods? All she wanted was to meet it again...
And say thank you and hug it and tell it what a job they all did— ah, or maybe, write it down... but, a hug would surely convey her feelings! Maybe after that, if it wanted to, it could help her here too, just by being her friend... it was lonely, after all, being here without everyone else. But, this was her dream she was working towards! She would fulfil that debt alone. Fu could handle multiple jobs and study and take of her at the same time, the least she could so, Itsuki decided, was to work a job to pay off her debt and take those heavy burdens off Fu's back, so they can enjoy this hard-won peace together.
(Even if she had to swallow her fear to fight to stay calm and still when the customers looked less like their faiey friends and so much more like Vertexes...)
((Conveying her voice without someone to talk to/a prompt is a bit difficult, given that she only writes, at this point! I hope this is acceptable, but if it isn't maybe some questions or another kind of prompt would be helpful! I don't have any threads to link yet, unfortunately.))
